Unreal Tournament 2004

Post by Endymion on Mon Oct 13, 2014 7:32 pm

This game requires no introduction. The Unreal Tournament is the ultimate sport, kill or be killed. The UT2004 is one of the legendary titles amongst the arena shooters. Balanced weapons and movement system, great maps containing more possible routes, many gameplay options to make the tournament interesing. The game focuses on multiplayer over the internet or on LAN, and its netcode is very fine. Easily works without lag, even from higher distance. Also the engine (Unreal Engine 2.5) is very moddable, make yourself.

Little about the story... The game is not really focused on the story, but it has. After the event of the first two Unreal games, the war has been ended. Because of the possible next war, the world decided to found a competition, and make decision in this way instead of a bloody war (because the tournament isn't bloody... XD ). Many of the alien species and the human forces are formed they own team, and participate in the tournament... And now they are fight for their rights.

The Unreal Tournament 2004 is on the Steam (but it is a very bad revision), and on GoG. The GoG version also comes with the ECE (Editor's Choice Edition) pack, the latest patch, and even without DRM (requires no CD-Key or CD in drive to play). The GoG's edition uses an unique CD-Key, which support multiple machines, and can be played online with the same game installed on two computers (this is not work on the retail and the Steam version, you need different CD-Key for each install).

Since I'm not an FPS fan, and this is the only game I like in the genre, I just can recommend it.

And finally a quality gameplay video:

I used to play the series of this game alot in secondary school. ITS GREAT! The use of the Unreal Engine offered graphics that were really top notch during that time. It still is now thou. I still have this game stored in my hard disk. Personally, what I like are the ways the weapons are designed. Many variety of them and how each of them shoots or charges. Really ingenious. They are not overly complicated making it even easier to remember what each of them does and what their specialty is. Flak cannon all the way!

Oh yes, the magic of the Unreal Engine 2.5. With lower requirements, the UE2.5 was able to utilize the same graphical performance, like the "hardcore" games of that era (Doom 3, Quake 4, ...). I still find it beautiful, a little comic like, but with no cell shader. Very Happy

I know, the most famous game is the Unreal Tournament '99. It is a little faster, but has less tricks. Using these tricks will make the UT2004 faster. For some reason I like the UT2004 more, than other FPS games.

... and it has an over-agressive ClanLord to match my taste. Groovy

I decided to provide some links for you. Cool

First, the game itself: Unreal Tournament 2004 ECE (GoG Edition)

This is the GoG's packed version. It contains the base game, the 3369 patch (latest), the Editor's Choice Edition expansion, and the official map packs. Work on 32 and 64 bit operation systems. It has a special legal CD-Key already installed as well, which allow you to connect any server, and can be used on any PC you want. Oh, and it is only 2 Gb, you just need to install with one click. Twisted

And some cool maps in pack: UT2004 Map Packs

These are the collections of the EPIC community's best maps. These was used on they tournaments too. You need download just the .zip files. The other files are patches, but you have it, is you downloaded the GoG edition.

And for last... anyone interested in some multiplayer fun? Very Happy

Stealing flags, shredding Power Nodes, dominating posts, footballing with explosive ball... this is the FPS genre's real meaning, yeah. Very Happy

I not played on this game in its golden age, just after I finished the middle school. But it is still my favorit, even after tried the UT3 and the public test of the new UT. I just not feel these right, the 2004 rulez! Groovy

And there are still UT2004 championships with pro players. It is just me, or the old game is a way more popular than the UT3? Very Happy

Anyone have a favorite skin from the game? And favorit weapon? Twisted

There is "that" mutator.

mediafire.com download/j1jrk9eifetx3ai/WOESSPUT2K4-v2.1.zip

I was wrong, it is not called Cygen mutator, only the two mech-suits was named Cygen. So... what is this?

This mutator adds two usable mech-suit to the game. These will be randomly spawned on the maps, numbers can be set before the start. The mechs' weapons can be either Rocket Launcher or Minigun. The ammunition is infinite, however requires time to reload the fired shells. Either variant has two weapon from the same. If you exit from the mech, you lose all of your ammunition you have before the pick-up.

There are also an additional mutator, which let the AVRiL to lock-on Cygens (like the vehicles). However the Cygen count as a standard character. It can be road-killed, but because the high ammount of life, it can whitstand for some seconds.

I like to use any weapon found anywhere. It is basically the "ClanLord" strategy. I don't care about the circumstances, just aggressively attack any target within sight with any weapon I have. Because nobody can't win with only dodge. Hyperactive

About ClanLord... he is one of the three possible bosses from the singleplayer. He is a half cybernetic Skaarj with the highest accuracy in the game, combined with the lowest strategy. He is attack you if he see you, no matter what weapon, or how many HP he have.

So, he is my favorit skin from the game, he is the one from the some "?" portraits in the skin select screen. Razz

Re: Unreal Tournament 2004

Also there are an another "classic" mod for UT2k4, called simply 'Re'. Re is a game mod modifier with a lot of extra contents. It adds the Freon, and the TAM (Team Arena Master) for the game's mode roster.

Freon is know as Freeze Tag in some other games. Two teams fight against each other. There are no pickups, but you start with a set of weapons, ammunitions, and shields (set by the admin). If you kill someone, he/she will be frozen. After a couple of seconds (again set by the admin) he/she will be free. The team goals a score if the freeze all of the other team's players. Also if you stands near to one of your frozen team mate, the melting will be faster (you will see a little sun icon on the screen whe this happen). It is a very interesting mode at all.

The TAM (Team Master Arena) is the classic Last Man Standing mode. It played by teams, can be played in free for all like the standard LMS. Every player has only one life, if someone die, he will stay dead till the next turn. The objective is easy: your team win a point if only that team has players alive. Sound good? It is good!

There are an another but not new mode, the Team Deathmach, but with the special features of the Re things.

The Re adds a better score table, as well an enhanced statistic interface. You will see the amount of the caused damage, the weapons' fire mods statistics, and so much.

Here is an another mirror for the game. This is a newer installer, than the one from the torrent. It works better with modern OSs, and works easier under Linux (with Wine).

MEGA mirror

Of course, you need to download all files, and must be in the same folder. Then just run the installer, and the magic start. Razz

Just the fastest, but I prefer Medafire, and always use that. However for this large upload the Mega was the most useful. Later I will add the UTComp, and the comined map packs too. Hyperactive

UPDATE!

MEGA (Click on it!)

I uploaded some cool things in the MEGA folder, these are:

1. The x64 launcher for the game, for Win7 and other modern systems.
2. The UTComp's final version. This is a mutator to enhance the game's base functions. It can edit the colorglow for team modes, can add hit sounds, colored names, and much more. This mutator has no effects on the actual gameplay and balance.
3. The ECUMP (EPIC Community Ultra Map Pack). It is a map pack, wich contains the Community Bonus Map Pack 1 and 2 (both part), and the Ultimate Community Map Pack 1 to 4. It also has the bonus maps, and the original Campgrounds.

Enjoy! Very Happy

On the GOG.com, the game is only $10-12. If anyone interested, go and buy it. It is cheaper than on Steam, and requires no 3rd party programs (and online connection) to run it like it did on Steam. Of course it is a digital copy, you must save on your computer.

I know it is easy to find for free, but when I bought the game now it felt better. Twisted
