Mega Man 8-bit Deathmatch Empty Mega Man 8-bit Deathmatch

Post by Endymion Wed Jun 10, 2015 5:44 pm

Mega Man 8-bit Deathmatch Header

If I want to be simple, this game is an arena FPS with Mega Man characters, using Robot Master weapons instead of guns.

The Mega Man 8-bit Deathmatch is a cool little fan made game based on the Mega Man universe. It is utilizing the Doom 2's engine and the Zandronum application. Rather low spec game, but still higher as the emulated version of the Doom 2. As the title says it uses 8-bit textures for representing the original feel. The gameplay is the simple one just like in Unreal Tournament, or Quake Arena: beat your opponent, while pick up better weapons. The game features all of the Robot Masters' copy weapons till Mega Man & Bass (the latest "old" game). The stages not have all of the weapons, but only a selection, however the different stages has different selection of weapons. For player skin, all of the characters are available, but they have the very same attributes. There is a fun singleplayer champaign with mid-bosses and bosses from the game, but with unique story. Of course the game's main goal is the multiplayer.

There is also something I want to mention. The game can be played with an user created mod, called Justified Classes. This changes the gameplay toward a more unique arena shooter. Now there are no weapons anymore, but the characters acting as classes. All of them become unique with different attacks and attributes. All of them will be similar to the NES Mega Man's boss with the same name. With this mod, the game is just superb fun. Very Happy

We can if you're interested. The class based mode is cool. Very Happy

But I must say it is nowhere as good as the Dysnomia ExBurst but very fun. The two plays very similar. Twisted

Full 3D, like the Windom XP. However they used low poly models for objects and 8 bit textures to keep the feeling of a NES game.

It is. I used to make characters for it. My big project was the extreme Justice AI, it can combo out our souls. XD

Also I made a Sailor Moon game with that a long ago, but I not finished it.

The MUGEN is an engine for fighting games. You must build up, because the base game only has one character with one stage. XD

It was long ago, I not have it anymore. The last time I used the MUGEN was when it was not even in version 1.0.

The simple is good, but a good game requires some variety in its gameplay. I think in terms of variety even the Windom XP is lose to most other games. The units maybe different but the gameplay is the same: you dash around to evade the shots then attack back through the opening in the enemy's strategy. But this isn't bothers me.

The opensource engines are the most common when it comes to modding. The Unreal Engine's every version was always the favorite for the game makers, and since most of the popular games run on this engine it also let you mod it with unlimited freedom.

If you want something with less system requirement then here is the Cube Engine. I don't know what it can do but the Red Eclipse run on this engine. That game looks and plays better than UT2004.

There is the Red Eclipse, the World of Padman (which is a stand alone opensource mod for Quake), Smokin' Guns (Quake again) and this is all I have played. I don't know if the Mechwarrior 4: Mercanaries is opensource, but it is free too.

The Mechwarrior 4 is mecha based, but it is more like a simulator than the Gundam games. You have full control over a large mech, and you must use many different buttons to operate it. It is a good game, I played a lot on this but never tried its multiplayer.

It is based on the Battle Tech, there is no mechs that can fly or use funnel. It is a real robot game, not fantasy like the Gundam. But it is very fun to play. Smile
