Screen Jitter or Jutter during Explosions and landings. is it a camera issue?

Post by Blackholesun on Mon May 08, 2017 9:31 am

Hi Folks Just a question for the Modders and Engineers

Has anyone been able to find a way to reduce or even eliminate the Screen Jutter (shaking camera) during "High Impact" explosions or even landings? With all the effects that happen in this game I feel that this is one effect that is not really required and besides it hurts my eyes after a while.

Plus it may make the gameplay a lot smoother to look at. If it is a camera effect and not due to the game being fully optimized how would you go about correcting it?

I doesn't know how much the screen shaking for you, but during heavy hits there is intentional shaking. This includes explosive weapons (cannons, missiles, and fireballs mostly) at a level where the cruise missile (Windom XP Type-B) makes is yanking like there is an earthquake.

However there shouldn't be shaking during landing.

Ahhh so it is intentional. Then is it possible to elimminate it? how much knowledge of the game engine is required to eliminate it? the shaking occurs not so much when you boost and land but when you are hit and and fall down and the heavy explosions. I was compering it to the camera mechanic in gundam versus when incidences like that happen and there is no screen shaking which makes smoother to watch the gameplay.

If you're using the mod. Just fixing the body_d.x fixes it. Though you'll have to edit it via HOD.

Yes, there are mods which has the shaking removed. I'm not a modder also but you can PM others if want some help doing it. Only the first one is the hard, the others can be edited after the example.

Anyway a little history: The shaking is a heritage from Bootfighter Windom XP. In the free version there was no on-screen indicator to display when you're in mercy-invincibility, or when you got knocked down with mercy-invincibility. The shaking is equal to the strenght of the attack just hit you. The very heavy hits (like the mentioned cruse missile) are instant un-recoverable knockdown thus nearily tearing your screen appart with shaking.

Ultimate Knight Windom XP have on-screen indicator to show when you're in invincibility frame, so this kind of shaking effect is unnecessary.

Could you tell me which Mods have removed the shaking succesfully? Maybe the creators of those mods could give us more insight on the process.

The Gundam vs. mod I guess totally removed it from all the units, but the Barbatos mod doesn't have it for sure.

No it still occurs in the Recent Gundam Vs Mod from the player perspective If you run the demo you'll see it especially when there are quite a few heavy explosions and effects being executed.

Maybe we can move/Merge this thread to the Hod Editing Page on the forum and see what can be explored.

I think the explosion is based on the skill impact from your opponent. To lessen it, the ATTACK impact must be lessen. Well... try dying via a gatling bullet ingame, the one that doesn't stun. You'll see your mech explode while walking with no shaking. But if the ATTACK is set with a higher value in terms of knockback or using certain AttackFlags, your mech dies with a lot of shaking. IMO anyways, haha...

Exactly, this is the same as in Virtual-On, if you're lucky you know when you're invulnerable and when not lol.

Anyway I have no rights to move topics, only admins can do it, sorry. Smile

Fair enough. Tho I will try o explore the option of adjusting the body_d.x file got some vaction time lined up so I'll see what I can learn during that time off.

Anyway Endymion do you still have contact with Y kamada? I wanted to explore the possibilty of him re releasing a revision of 2.008 that would be fully optimised for todays multicore systems. SV has next to no chance save those Hobbyist. And since 2.008 is already a complete game it should only take a slight bit of reverse enginerring on his side to work out some of the kinks that caused those abysmal frame rate drops on blitz and war mode.

Y. Kamada is nowhere since the end of 2013. I tryied to with contact him in order to purchase the rights of Windom XP for a freeware re-release. He never answered but I guess the contact e-mail also dead. There was a community focused on competitive multiplayer but they can't get connected with him. The Windom SV also in development but not by him that is sure now.

The source of the binaries is a long time wish of everyone everywhere, no matter if they are modders or players. With those the game's registry requirement could be removed and one could make a portable version rather than an installer. As you said too it could be reverse enginered but the whole game is encrypted thus requiring extreme amount of programing experience to do changes like this.

The Team Battle mode (the 20on20 battle) works if you have a strong enough PC or by lowering the graphics settings, but Blitz has a problem. The game renders everything on screen at the moment of spawning no matter the distance. It was optimized for 10 units so it can handle the things, but too much textures or too detailed models can cause slowdowns. Blitz Tactics however has no respawns like the other mods, but it actually spawns the unit again. After 1-2 minutes the game is continuously forced to render newer and newer units on the screen, completely reloading the already loaded datas. The mode works little better on strong single-core computers. Not even Kamada had idea why the engine doing it, but the most common known reason is the 10 unit optimized memory indexing. The game load and store data for 10 units only, and can't do more.

I mentioned it isn't respawn but spawning again the same. The game load data on spawn but not during respawn. You may notice this in singleplayer when you summon a random unit. It freezes momentarily every time you summon a new unit then runs smoothly. However if you summon the same from an already spawned unit the game doesn't requires loading.
